Walk or Run, it’s Fun and Fundraising at the 2018 Bella Rose Strides for Babies 5K

Saturday, August 4, 2018 was a beautiful morning for this year’s Bella Rose Strides for Babies 5K held in Cary, NC in memory of Bella Rose Diaz, daughter of Mike and Amy Diaz, who died from SIDS in May 2011. Adults, kids and dogs all lined up at 8:00 a.m. to start the walk/run; while serious racers ran ahead, others walked the well-tended trails through the woods.

At the race’s end, kids sported their participation medals and ran around playing Frisbee, hula-hoop, lined up for temporary tattoos and fairy hair extensions, and trooped into the bounce house. Adults joined in as well, placing their bids at the silent auction and chasing the kids.

Race organizers handed out cow bell-shaped medals – a nod to Bella Rose’s name – and thanked everyone for turning out to remember her and all babies gone too soon. The annual walk/run is presented by Amy’s employer, Carolina Family Practice and Sports Medicine, with proceeds benefiting First Candle. This year’s event raised more than $17,200, adding to the more than $125,000 the event has raised since its inception.

See you next year!
