First Candle adds Director of Development and Community Outreach

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Abby Lundy to the position of Director of Development and Community Outreach.

The success of our Straight Talk for Infant Safe Sleep program in various states is due to the strong connections we’ve been able to develop within the community.  Building trusting relationships is key and we’re excited to have someone dedicated to doing this. Most recently Abby has been instrumental in growing our presence in New Jersey through our participation in the Nurture New Jersey program and connecting with local maternal and infant health agencies. She has also been leading the charge in coordinating our October 1st event we will be hosting at Holy Name Medical Center – The Impact of Implicit Bias and Social Determinants on Infant Mortality, which will convene many of the state and national organizations that we work with.

Perhaps most importantly Abby is working closely with our donors and families who are involved with hosting events on our behalf.  This includes supporting the five incredible athletes who are running as part of Team First Candle in the NYC Marathon this year.

Abby has been with First Candle for three years in a finance capacity but her experience in community affairs as Borough Council Member in her hometown of Hillsdale, NJ gives her the ability to develop strong connections with local organizations.  “While I’ve never lost a child to SIDS or stillbirth, as a mother I can think of no other cause as important.  I’m excited to be involved with First Candle in this new capacity as it affords me the opportunity to establish relationships directly in the communities that are at highest risk.  It’s vey rewarding to work for an organization whose mission I wholeheartedly support,” she states.

Please join me in welcoming Abby to this new position.
