Get Involved in #GivingFirst

What is #GivingFirst?

#GivingFirst is First Candle’s year-end campaign of gratitude and awareness fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. #GivingFirst will kick off on #GivingTuesday, November 28, 2017 and will run until December 31, 2017.

What is #GivingTuesday?

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday begins the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

Why is #GivingFirst and #GivingTuesday important?

With 27,000 babies dying each year before their first birthday, we have 27,000 reasons why we put #GivingFirst.  #GivingFirst is an opportunity for First Candle to offer gratitude to our supporters, spread awareness about SIDS, accidental suffocation, and stillbirths, and maximize our donor’s dollars with matching gift programs specifically offered on #GivingTuesday.

How can I make a difference?

First Candle relies on your support to continue our work with safe sleep education in at-risk communities and providing bereavement support to families with pregnancy and infant loss. We’re asking you to make a financial gift or share our messages about SIDS, accidental suffocation, and stillbirth awareness. We have THREE ways you can support First Candle:

  • Take advantage of Charitable Giving Programs:
    • Donations made through our Holiday Challenge Page from November 21 – January 3 will increase First Candle’s chance to win up to $150,000 in prizes and matching funds from the Newman’s Own Foundation;
    • Find out if your company has a matching gift program by checking here.
  • Post, share or retweet our messages from #GivingTuesday until December 31st. A generous First Candle donor has graciously committed to donating $1 for every use of the #GivingFirst campaign hashtag on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter up to $12,500.
  • Tune in to our Facebook Live sessions, Twitter Chat, and Webinar, to learn more about why we put #GivingFirst.

How can I follow the conversation?

#GivingFirst is an online campaign of gratitude, which means you’ll be hearing about it on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram from now until December 31st. You can follow along by searching the hashtag #GivingFirst on your favorite social media platform. Click here to view the schedule of events being held on #GivingTuesday.

It’s that simple! We hope you will join us in achieving our mission of saving babies and supporting families. Together we can make a difference.
