Paternal Perception of Infant Sleep Risks and Safety

Grantee: Arkansas Children’s Hospital Research Institute

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and suffocation are leading causes of death to infants before their first birthday. Despite awareness campaigns and educational interventions to promote risk reduction strategies, compliance with best practice recommendations for some populations remains low. Additionally, these strategies have primarily been targeted at the mothers’ knowledge, attitudes and beliefs. The proposed study will use focus group methodology to advance understanding of risk factors and identify opportunities for intervention from the perspective of fathers.  Results of the study are expected to inform future awareness and education strategies.
