A Message From The Fountain Family
Our son, William, was born on May 2, 2013, in the short burst of time when Forsythia bushes bloomed. He was healthy and he brought joy to our growing family. Big sister, Audrey, could not wait to meet him. On the drive to the hospital with her grandfather, she noticed the bright yellow bushes and exclaimed, “Forsythia flowers!” Audrey beamed as she climbed up into the hospital bed to snuggle with her new baby brother. On the day we brought him home from the hospital, she had prepared a banner (with a little help from Grandpa), welcoming him. Unfortunately, on May 7, 2013, at only five days old, William stopped breathing. The medical examiner later determined that no cause could be found, and he had passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). We are forever changed, in both beautiful and terrifying ways, because of William’s life and death. We learned how supportive friends and family could be, and what it means for others to truly stand by you. We learned just how deep the love for your baby goes. We realized how terrifying parenting could become. When our third child, Harper, was born, we lived every day with the knowledge that no matter what we did to keep her safe, she could be taken from us at any time. We also learned to heal, and to hope for the future. It is our hope that scientists can determine the cause of SIDS and eliminate it. Our hope renews every spring when blooming Forsythia bushes remind us of William’s short, but bright, burst of life.
