Become a Safe Sleep Facilitator

What a Straight Talk Ambassador is and how to apply.

Straight Talk for Infant Safe Sleep

At the core of First Candle is its Straight Talk for Infant Safe Sleep program, which works with local communities to educate health care providers – nurses, social agency workers, Doulas, lactation consultants, infant sleep counselors, and more – about infant safe sleep practices. Participants also learn how to counsel families about infant safe sleep and breastfeeding in a collaborative way, respectful of their lived experiences and customs.

Some have found the experience so enriching that they have gone on to become Facilitators themselves, conducting Straight Talk trainings. You can meet them here.

If this sounds like something you’d like to do, consider signing up for a Straight Talk training session. You’ll learn:

  • About the latest recommendations by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the reasons behind them
  • How to determine the safety of baby equipment
  • How to deal with exhaustion
  • The importance of a conversational approach to counseling
  • How to recognize and minimize potential biases
